Future Wi-Fi devices could literally get thousands of antennae to improve signal quality, thanks to a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) invention… Engadget reports that researchers have worked out how to turn the surface of a device into an antenna array. It uses similar tech to RFID tags, giving it two key benefits. First, it’s cheap, costing only a few cents per sheet. Second, it can get its power from the RF energy, so no direct power connection is needed....

Many of the third-party transit and maps iOS app developers have been updating their apps following the launch of iOS 6 to include integration as a routing service in Apple’s new Maps app. Many have also been hoping to pick up some new users looking for alternatives, as Apple abandons Google’s backend and faces some controversy in the process from users who view the new Maps experience as a downgrade....

A Japanese TV crew approached a booth at the Foxconn plant in the suburbs of Taiyuan in Shanxi Province and asked a woman manning the booth about the 18,000 people Foxconn is recruiting for the next iPhone (video here at 7:10 via Macotakara). She said something about “being built for June.” That plant is hiring many workers (and facing strikes from current workers) for iPhone production, according to local reports....

The most surprising thing about Friends is the fact that Monica and Joey stayed completely platonic for the entire series. While a potential relationship between the two of them has been teased several times, nothing has ever come to fruition. This is pretty odd considering it was revealed in season three that Monica and Joey did in fact have chemistry when they first met. We are getting a major update to Apple’s free iOS music production suite today. New data from Gartner suggests that iPhone sales grew 36% year-on-year, while Samsung’s sales fell 5.3% in the same period. Apple’s market share climbed from 12.2% in Q2 2014 to 14.6% in the same quarter this year. Other winners were Chinese brands Huawei and Xiaomi. Gartner said that while overall smartphone growth was sluggish, Apple continued to dominate the premium end of the market, with other vendors struggling to compete....

France has fined Apple €25M ($27M) for the battery-management features that slowed the performance of older iPhones in order to prevent unexpected shutdowns. It’s taken quite a while to reach this point: the French consumer watchdog DGCCRF began its investigation more than a year ago… Background Apple found that iPhones with degraded battery performance could sometimes unexpectedly shutdown when the processor was working hard. To prevent this, the company added an iOS feature to intentionally throttle performance when there was a risk of this happening....

Nintendo last month launched a brand new game for the Switch – Pokémon Quest – and told us that it would be coming to iOS sometime in June. The game is now live in the App Store … The game focuses on simplicity, with Pokémon launched into battle by tapping attack meters, but otherwise engaging in combat on their own without the usual turn-based control.
