iPhone assembler Foxconn is apparently hoping to move beyond its relatively low-margin work into more profitable high-end component manufacturing in order to take a bigger slice of revenue from Apple, reports the WSJ. Foxconn already manufactures some iPhone components, but currently only low-margin ones like metal casings and cables … Apple Inc.’s major assembler Foxconn is in preliminary discussions with a provincial government in northern China for an investment in a new factory that would make high-end screens for iPhones and other mobile devices, people familiar with the talks say....

The FTC’s announcement seems to target AT&T’s practice of lowering data transfer speeds for customers with unlimited data plans versus customers with tiered data plans now offered. From the FTC’s press release: “AT&T promised its customers ‘unlimited’ data, and in many instances, it has failed to deliver on that promise,” said FTC Chairwoman Edith Ramirez....

We’re expecting the announcement of four new iPhones this year, including two models that will replace the regular iPhone 11. While we still don’t know many details other than the iPhone 4-inspired design, Svetapple has created a concept to demonstrate the potential look of the new entry-level iPhone 12. According to rumors, all the new 2020 iPhone models will have flat edges just as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. While there are no details about any new colors, it’s likely that iPhone 12 will be offered in a variety of colors just like iPhone 11, while the iPhone 12 Pro will keep discreet colors from iPhone 11 Pro....

Deja vu? The Foxconn acquisition of Sharp was almost a done deal a few weeks ago, until Sharp revealed some additional liabilities at the eleventh hour it had not previously disclosed. This meant Foxconn had to go back to the drawing board and re-assess the deal, renegotiating some parts of the contract with Sharp.
