The FTC is fining the creators of two different smartphone apps, both of which were previously available as paid apps on the App Store, for falsely claiming to detect symptoms of melanoma. The two apps, MelApp and Mole Detective, have long been removed from the App Store (although a version of Mole Detective remains on Google Play for $4.99), and Apple appears to have cracked down on similar apps that were available on the store as recently as early 2014....
If there’s one show on TV that played loosely with the facts, it was Futurama: no story or timeline was ever set in stone because the writers had so much fun carving them up. In true sci-fi fantasy fashion, characters were brought back to life, history rewritten, or entire civilizations recast. So to suggest that there are key storylines that weren’t resolved is a bit disingenuous, as no story or plot piece was ever completely safe....
In what would be a rather amusing twist, future iPhones could be built by Google robots as Google’s robotics division assists Foxconn to “speed up robot deployment” at its factories. The WSJ reports that Foxconn was looking for assistance in automating its production lines, while Google is aiming to introduce robots to manufacturing processes that have so far been largely manual – electronics assembly being a key example. It takes around 600 people to make each iPhone....
Petyr Baelish, better known to Game of Thrones viewers as Littlefinger, foreshadowed the deaths of two characters in season 4. Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) was first introduced as King Robert’s Master of Coin, the figure in charge of the royal finances, in Game of Thrones. Littlefinger was a close friend of Catelyn Stark, but he wasn’t always trusted by other powerful figures. When not managing the brothels in King’s Landing, Littlefinger was brokering deals and alliances to get dirt on his enemies....
HBO has ordered Game of Thrones’ House Targaryen prequel TV show straight to series, revealing that it will be called House of the Dragon. Miguel Sapochnik, who directed several Game of Thrones episodes including “Hardhome” and “Battle of the Bastards,” will direct the pilot and additional episodes, while also serving as showrunner alongside Ryan Condal (Colony). House of the Dragon was co-created by Condal and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R....
The scripts for Game of Thrones season 8 have clarified Jaime Lannister’s reasoning for leaving behind Brienne in Winterfell while he ran back to his sister, Cersei. Brienne’s reaction to Jaime’s decision was clouded in controversy considering her previous character development. The original script would have shed more light on Jaime’s actions in “The Last of the Starks.” Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) was never taken seriously as a woman warrior in Westeros....
Foxconn has announced that its headquarters, and one of its iPhone plants, will not re-open on February 10. Monday was scheduled to be the date on which Chinese businesses would resume operations after an extended break to limit the spread of the coronavirus. The news comes on the same day that we learn Apple Stores in China are also unlikely to re-open on this date… Bloomberg saw the memo to employees working in Foxconn’s Shenzhen facility....
Foxconn’s founder and largest shareholder Terry Gou says that he has urged Apple to move iPhone production out of China. The statement may, however, be intended more for the ears of the Taiwanese electorate than for Apple … Gou has stepped down as Foxconn’s chairman in order to run for president of Taiwan, and Bloomberg reports Gou suggesting that production should be moved there. There has been increasing speculation of late that Apple might choose to take this course of action in order to escape yet another escalation of Trump’s import tariffs....
Following a controversy in which Apple removed app discovery service AppGratis from its App Store for breaking Apple’s guidelines, Reuters reports today that regulators in France are planning to ask the European Commission and EU member states for better regulation of technology companies. FreedomPop, the carrier offering free and cheap data plans on Sprint’s network, today announced it will start selling the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4 on its free wireless plan offering 200 voice minutes, 500 text messages and 500 MBs of data per month.
