The Nintendo Switch has recently gotten a new custom build by creator Rated-E Mods in the custom community, which allows players to dock their switch directly into an old GameCube with working controller ports and all. The GameCube was released in 2001 and has, over time, become a cult classic in the gaming world. Harboring games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, which is still incredibly popular in the fighting game scene today, makes the GameCube extremely relevant in the eyes of many in the Nintendo community. Melee players still prefer to play Smash the “right” way with GameCube controllers over any kind of joy-cons, too.

The Nintendo Switch has been a major contender in the industry ever since its release back in early 2017. Now, the Switch is even getting a new console based on the next game in the Animal Crossing franchise set to be released next month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Switch has also received a Lite version, like many of its Nintendo hand-held predecessors, giving fans a variety of customization options for their console. Fans are customizing their Switches to be more aesthetically pleasing, fit in with their favorite games, and now bring their favorite systems from the past back to life.

According to ComicBook, Rated-E Mods showed off their new working GameCube dock for the Nintendo Switch that allows players to directly dock their Switch into the old system. Besides just being a hub for nostalgia, the GameCube dock is complete with working original controller ports which gives players access to use their old GameCube controllers for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate without the need of an adapter or custom built Joy-Cons.

Rated-E Mods originally created his GameCube dock by using a broken system and piecing it back together again. Rated-E also made other versions of their GameCube dock for their viewers, helping them with the electronics of the system and created a YouTube video of how they put their dock together in the first place.

Seeing the GameCube dock for the Switch is interesting to see considering their aren’t many GameCube games that have been converted to Switch just yet. Many fans are eagerly anticipating their old favorites to make remastered comebacks on the newest system. The Nintendo Wii had some backwards compatibility with old games so it would definitely be cool to see if a mod similar to Rated-E’s would allow backwards comparability with old GameCube games as well.
