The Battle of Winterfell has begun in six new photos from Game of Thrones season 8. The White Walkers and their army of the dead are indeed on their way to overrun Winterfell, where the living are prepared to make their stand. It’s anyone’s guess who will live and who will die when the biggest battle ever on Game of Thrones begins.

Last week’s Game of Thrones episode took a deep breath before the epic battle of all epic battles with a slower episode that, among other things, gave Arya and Gendry a chance to get together before facing almost certain death. The episode also saw Jaime and Brienne sharing a touching moment, as Jaime made his former captor an official Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Of course, the episode also saw Jon Snow finally confessing his lineage to Daenerys, a confession that may have instantly turned Jon from Daenerys’ beloved into her bitterest rival.

Ahead of Sunday night’s premiere, HBO has shared six new images from the next episode, whose title has not been officially revealed (via EW). As one might expect, there isn’t a lot of spoiling going on, but the images definitely tease that there is intense drama to come as the White Walkers arrive. See the images below:

A couple of the shots are taken straight from the previously released Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3 teaser, including the image of Jon Snow looking terrified about something, and another one of Brienne and Jaime getting set to fight side by side. There’s also a shot of Jon Snow and Daenerys on a hillside gazing down on the battlefield, presumably getting ready to swoop down with their dragons as part of the plan to lure the Night King into the open by exposing Bran. Sansa clearly figures prominently in the episode as she appears in two images, one alone and one with Arya (is this their final goodbye?). And in a last image, Varys and Tyrion Lannister are huddled together in the crypt, which is presumably the safest place in all of Winterfell (but might in fact be a death trap).

After last week’s episode, which no doubt was the last time some fan-favorite characters will ever be seen enjoying a peaceful moment, the action on Game of Thrones is set to ramp up to levels that have never been seen before. Many characters who have been around for years are undoubtedly going to die in coming weeks, leading to repeated moments of grief for diehard fans. Many theories are also about to be put to the test, as HBO’s classic fantasy series finally comes to a close. When all is said and done, there will no doubt be a lot more surprises as well.
