Throughout the course of a single generation, the High Lord House of the Westerlands, House Lannister, managed to become the most powerful House in Westeros, only to be pushed to near ruin and extinction in a matter of years. Tywin Lannister was one of the smartest and savviest men in the history of Westeros, and he managed to take his family all the way to the top, but now his son Tyrion is the only child that survives him.

And now that Game of Thrones has concluded and Tyrion is the only Lannister who remains, there are still questions about the past, present, and future of the family that linger. These are 10 questions we still have about House Lannister.

What Would Have Happened If Cersei Won?

Although Daenerys Targaryen always had the dragon advantage, Cersei handily demonstrated that Dany in no way had the war in the bag. Frankly had Cersei been able to play her hand only slightly differently, she may have been able to defeat the mother of dragons.

So if that had actually happened, then what would have happened after Dany was defeated? Namely, would Cersei go to war to bring the North to heel, or would she let it go? She has always understood how difficult it was to control, and that was even before they declared independence.

What Would Have Happened To Tyrion If Cersei Won?

Obviously the whole Lannister family has some pretty toxic familial dynamics, but the relationship between Cersei and Tyrion has always been one of the strangest.

On some level it does seem like they actually love each other, but it’s also hard to imagine anyone loathing their little brother more than Cersei loathes Tyrion. Becoming hand to Queen Daenerys was obviously a pretty bold move against his own family, but if Dany had lost and Cersei had won, would she really have had it in her to kill her brother for good?

Did Jaime And Cersei Really Keep Their Relationship A Secret?

Well clearly they didn’t keep it a secret forever, but this is more a question of whether or not the people around them when they were growing up noticed how strange their relationship really was.

If Brandon Stark of all people managed to catch them in the act, was he truly the only one to ever do it? And how early on in their lives did Cersei and Jaime’s romantic relationship actually develop? Meaning, were there members of the Lannister household who were well aware of Jaime and Cersei’s predilections pretty early on?

Is Their Blonde Hair Really That Important?

After the Mad King Aerys and then Robert’s Rebellion threw Westeros into a state of disarray, it was probably just a reality that another war was inevitable. When the person on the throne has a tenuous claim, someone is bound to challenge it.

But the source of the War of the Five Kings was the revelation that none of the royal children were actually Robert’s children. However, it’s kind of hard to overlook the oddness of the fact that the only real “proof” that Cersei’s children weren’t Robert’s was the fact that they had blonde hair, which seems like pretty thin evidence all things considered.

How Did They Keep Their Empty Mines A Secret?

House Lannister may be the wealthiest house in all of Westeros, but as everyone would later find out, the gold mines that made them so rich had nearly run dry. However, how exactly would they have been able to keep something like that a secret for so long?

A mining operation requires miners, and either the miners working on them would notice that they were running out or it would become obvious that a lot less work was actually going on in the mines, so why didn’t everyone easily put two and two together?

How Different Would The World Be If Cersei Married Rhaegar?

Cersei Lannister may have been the most beautiful woman in all Seven Kingdoms, but she really couldn’t land a husband to save her life. Surprisingly, she was initially the leading contender to marry the crown prince, Rhaegar Targaryen.

Rhaegar was betrothed and married to Elia Martell instead, and this was really one of the biggest catalysts for Robert’s Rebellion. So that kind of begs the question, if the Mad King hadn’t pulled out of this engagement, would the rebellion have even happened in the first place? And would Tywin still have finagled his way to the top of the Seven Kingdoms?

Why Did Jaime And Cersei Die?

The collapse of the Red Keep was no joke, and logically it would seem like Jaime and Cersei would easily be crushed by enough rubble to kill them. But the series finale of Game of Thrones makes it look like that’s not really the case.

When Tyrion finds his older siblings, it takes him about three seconds to uncover their corpses from maybe one layer of rock and debris. Which would pretty clearly indicate that the destruction of the castle wasn’t enough to kill them, even though it apparently did.

How Would Cersei Be Remembered?

One of the most bizarre things to think about now that Game of Thrones is over is what Cersei Lannister’s legacy would be among the common people. We as viewers know that she was crazy, and her violent exploits should put her down in the history books as one of the craziest regents in Westeros history.

However, most of her vile behavior was aimed at people of the upper class, and at people that are now dead. And she took up arms to ward off a foreign invader. So is it possible that the common people will remember Cersei as more hero than villain?

Will Tyrion Marry And Have Children?

After quite the wild ride in the past few years, Tyrion Lannister seems to have ended his story in a relatively stable position that he will hopefully occupy for the rest of his life.

He’s been through some serious trauma, and no one would blame him for never wanting to create his family considering the family that he came from, however it would also make sense if he wants to improve the legacy of the Lannisters and become the father he always wish that he had. So will Tyrion become the new patriarch of the Lannister name?

Is Tyrion The Lord Of House Lannister?

Despite all of the drama that the most prominent Lannisters went through, Tyrion is hardly the only Lannister left. There are more than enough members of the family to continue the family line, regardless of the fact that Tyrion is theoretically the heir to Casterly Rock and the High Lordship.

But of course, there might be a slight flaw in the line of succession. Namely, does someone inherit their House when they murdered the previous Lord of said House? It doesn’t seem like Tyrion is going to face much punishment for killing his father, but does that mean he’s the High Lord of the Westerlands now?
