While Game of Thrones had its share of amusing moments throughout eight seasons it was by no means a funny show. Perhaps the least funny thing on the show was the mysterious White Walkers. The supernatural beings from beyond the wall had but one goal - to kill every living thing in Westeros.

Thanks to Thrones’ fans around the world, White Walkers have been given the comedic treatment (like so many other Game of Thrones-related characters) in the form of internet memes. Here are 10 memes about the White Walkers that will have you cry-laughing.

The Original Walker

The shot of Jack Nicholson frozen to death in the snow is one of the most iconic images in movie horror history and certainly one of the most memorable scenes from The Shining. But perhaps there’s more there than meets the eye.

The Children of the Forest possess magical elements and allegedly created the White Walkers. The Overlook Hotel is also said to possess certain supernatural elements. Perhaps somewhere in time, the two worlds got their signals crossed and the result was Jack Torrence, the first White Walker.

White Walker Vs The Walking Dead

Arguably the two most popular shows of the last decade, Game of Thrones and The Walking Deadshare a similar over-arching plot point. They both feature complex characters living in a world terrorized by menacing non-human entities.

Surely even fans who prefer the zombie show have to agree, in terms of walking monsters, Thrones has the edge with the White Walkers. The living dead are certainly scary but they move very slow and even the kids on the show are killing them. White Walkers are nearly indestructible and have been known to ride dragons.

Bran & The Night King Get Competitive

When Bran Stark and The Night King finally had their confrontation during the battle of Winterfell it was underwhelming, to say the least. Bran just sat there staring while the cold one simply stared back.

Maybe they were just picking up where they left off when they first met inside Bran’s vision. However it would have been cooler if Bran actually did something with his powers rather than just sitting there.

History Lesson With Lipita

Game of Thrones fans found plenty to complain about during the iconic show’s final season. Some of the biggest gripes concerned the White Walkers and how they were so easily defeated. Even more frustrating was the lack of answers surrounding those beyond the wall.

As this hilarious meme implies, even the Night King himself is confused about his mysterious past. Thankfully Red from Us (played by award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o) is on hand to clear things up for the frozen king.

Walker White

Has there ever been a more sympathetic bad guy than chemistry teacher turned drug lord, Walter White?  During Breaking Bad’s historic run he lied to his loved ones, dealt drugs, and murdered innocent people - yet fans rooted for him.

The above meme hilariously imagines the meth kingpin as a member of the Night King’s army. One thing about Walter White, he didn’t seem to enjoy working for other people. Remember what happened to Gus Fring? Undoubtedly it wouldn’t be long before White Walter is putting shards of dragon glass in the Night King’s tea.

Jon Finds Out

After Arya Stark shocked and divided the Game of Thrones audience by dispatching the Night King, Kit Harrington said all the right things. He (along with everyone else) always figured it would be Jon Snow who did the honors but he was happy for actress Maise Williams and Arya’s shining moment.

Come on? Do Thrones fans buy that? It’s more likely Kit Harrington’s true feelings about the situation are on display in this meme. If he cried during the table read when he discovered he’d have to kill the Mad Queen, it’s possible Kit required therapy upon learning his big moment was stolen by his little cousin.

VISERION BREAKS FANS HEARTS

Viewers practically felt the Night King’s ice spear pierce Viserion’s neck. If that’s the way he met his end at least Thrones fans could find comfort knowing the beloved dragon went out a hero. But the real heartbreak was yet to come.

The Night King resurrected the beast and when his once brown eyes turned walker blue it was evident Dany’s child had turned to the dark side. This hysterical meme likens Viserion’s turn to that of Anakin Skywalker when he turned his back on the Jedi. And it is Obi-Wan Kenobi who conveys what a lot of viewers were feeling at the time - shock, sadness, and anger.

The Night King Quarterback

Speaking of Viserion’s tragic fate. Whether it helped heal wounds or was just too damn hard to pass up, the Game of Thrones online community had a field day with the Night King’s ice spear toss.

Dozens of uproarious memes hit the web within days of the big bad’s improbable dragon-killing hurl. Most replaced the spear with a javelin and added Olympic rings to the scene while others took out the dreary northern background and replaced it with a track and field arena. Because it’s Superbowl season the above rendition seemed appropriate.

Beware Global Warming

Just like in reality, the impact the climate could have on our world plays a role in the Game of Thrones universe. The Stark slogan “Winter is Coming” served not only as a motto for their legendary house but as a warning about the horrors that lay beyond the wall. The topic divides Westeros with some folks believing the words as gospel, while others dismiss it as a bunch of northern hooey.

Greta Thunberg is the face of the current movement to raise awareness about climate change. Like many before her who have taken a side on a controversial topic, the passionate Swedish teen is the subject of various memes. Could the above image be our future? Who knows? Just remember most people in Westeros thought the White Walkers were either extinct or never existed at all. And look how that turned out.

LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Tinder

Dolly Parton of all people is responsible for the latest social media photo craze. Dubbed the “social challenge,” users are posting a collage of images made up of typical profile pictures people use for their various social media accounts. While LinkedIn images tend to look a bit professional Tinder photos can be more risque.

Game of Thrones has become part of the craze and who better to lead the charge than a White Walker general. The hilarious meme depicts the cold soldier as a creature who takes his work seriously but also likes to have a little fun when not waging a war against the living.
