While Game Of Thrones is full of gore and violence, at its heart the show is also full of romance and love. The hit HBO series featured countless amazing couples that became incredibly popular within the show, but there were even more that frustratingly never happened.

There were so many characters that teased romances and came close to becoming couples, or that simply would have been suited well together. For one reason or another, they didn’t happen and simply were left to the insane world of fan fiction instead.

Game Of Thrones had so many amazingly detailed characters that it was always going to leave fans frustrated that certain characters didn’t end up together. But fear not, for, in this list, we will rank 10 relationships that would have been great as a couple.

Brienne & Tormund

We will kickstart with a relationship that was heavily teased throughout the show, but sadly never came to be. From the moment Tormund met Brienne it was clear that the Wildling man was infatuated with her due to her size and strength, and he did everything possible to win her over.

In the end, she never returned the interest, instead falling for Jaime Lannister. However, due to how that relationship ended, it makes the fact these two never got together even sadder. Tormund becomes visibly upset when he realizes that Brienne is more interested in Jaime in the final season, which is a huge shame, as they would have been a dominant pair together.

Arya Stark & Hot Pie

Arya Stark didn’t really have any relationships throughout Game Of Thrones apart from the final season fling with Gendry, which was mainly done through a fear she would die a virgin. Instead, she was mostly fixated on becoming a dominant assassin.

However, if she was to find a relationship, then Hot Pie would be an ideal candidate. The two have plenty of history together and Hot Pie is someone who always looks out for Arya when he sees her. He’s one of the few characters on the show who is genuinely kind and caring, which would be ideal for Arya.

Bran Stark & Myrcella Baratheon

This might seem like a very odd couple to put together, considering one is a member of the Stark family and the other of the Lannisters. However, the two of them would have been brilliant as an item if they ever got an opportunity to spend time together.

Both Bran and Myrcella are incredibly kind-hearted and don’t actually want to be involved in the mess that they get into, but circumstances dictate it. Due to their sweet nature, the duo would likely have been an amazing couple together if they would have had the chance.

Robb Stark & Margaery Tyrell

Another brilliant Stark relationship that could have happened is between Robb and Margaery Tyrell, who would have been the ultimate power couple. The pair of them are aesthetically perfect for each other in the sense they’re both gorgeous, but that isn’t the only reason they could have been great.

Both Robb and Margaery would have potentially made an amazing couple in Westeros. They were both driven by wanting to be in power, but they weren’t mad like others. Each of them wanted to change the landscape for the better, which is why they would have worked perfectly.

Cersei Lannister & Viserys Targaryen

In the complete opposite of the previous couple, this relationship would have been all about being power-hungry. Both Cersei Lannister and Viserys Targaryen were obsessed to achieve their goals by any means necessary, which is why they’d have worked together.

Aesthetically, they would have certainly made sense together, but it is through their dastardly, by any means necessary attitudes that they’d have gotten along. Viserys may not have been around for too long on the show, but it was clear he would stop at nothing to be in charge. Had they been together, they’d have been a horrendous couple to others, but it would have benefitted each other.

Sansa Stark & Theon Greyjoy

Throughout the show, Sansa Stark and Theon Grejoy have a long-standing relationship with each other. Their relationship was almost like a sister and brother and they certainly had some major ups and downs considering Theon’s behavior at times.

However, they had shared experiences of being abused at the hands of Ramsay Bolton, and they certainly created a special bond. While it might have been too much to ever turn into something romantic, there’s no doubt they would have been a believable couple, had the show taken that route.

Yara Greyjoy & Ellaria Sand

One aspect of the show that was praised was the fact that they had no problems featuring LGBTQ characters. Two of those were Yara Greyjoy and Ellaria Sand, who managed to have a steamy scene together, but the relationship was never fully explored.

That’s a shame as they would have been a fantastic couple if the show had actually explored it. Both of them were badasses who had no issues in handling business themselves physically, while enjoying the romantic side of things as well, making them ideal partners.

Littlefinger & Catelyn Stark

They might not have been an ideal couple to have been together, but Littlefinger and Catelyn Stark certainly would have made sense. The duo has a long history together, with Petyr Baelish being absolutely head over heels in love with Catelyn.

While you may not have been able to trust Littlefinger to do things as honorably as Ned did, he certainly would have loved her all the same. They would have been quite a powerful couple together, even if Littlefinger would have used as many underhanded tactics as possible.

Tywin Lannister & Olenna Tyrell

This is another relationship that might have seen two people who don’t have much in common together, but it would have created a true power couple. The Lannister family relied upon Olenna at times, so imagine if they had just come together to try and make things work.

Tywin wasn’t quite as vindictive as his daughter, and therefore there is a chance he could have made things work with her. While it wouldn’t have been a pleasant relationship, a lot of the couples on the show aren’t, and are purely to move up the ladder of the political world.

Daenerys Targaryen & Jorah Mormont

The ultimate friend zone situation from Game Of Thrones was the relationship between Daenerys Targaryen and Jorah Mormont. Throughout the show, the pair went through tons of ups and downs together, with Jorah eventually literally giving his life for his Queen.

All he wanted was to be loved in return after totally falling for her. While there was a slight age difference that might have been the sticking point, it would have been great to see them together. The duo bounces off each other so well, yet for whatever reason, Daenerys never wanted to give him a chance.
