Star Wars Celebration 2019 will feature a panel dedicated to Galaxy’s Edge, shortly before the theme park opens. Later this year, fans will be able to experience the galaxy far, far away like never before via Galaxy’s Edge, an ambitious and extensive addition to Disney’s California and Florida locations that’s been in the works for the past handful of years. With immersive attractions like Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance, Star Wars themed food & beverage menus, and much more, Galaxy’s Edge promises to be a special adventure for all.

For any pop culture franchise, the grand opening of a Disney theme park would be a huge event, but for Star Wars in 2019, Galaxy’s Edge is just part of what’s poised to be a massive year. Fans are preparing for the theatrical release of Episode IX this December, as well as TV shows The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars revival on Disney Plus. With so much going on, Celebration is going to be massive, and now it’s been confirmed Galaxy’s Edge will have a presence there as well.

StarWars.com announced the “Bringing Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Life” panel will take place at Celebration Chicago on Saturday, April 13. People from Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm will be on hand to talk about the park and break down what attendees will be able to do once it opens.

Last week, Disney revealed the opening dates for Galaxy’s Edge; the one at Disneyland Resort launches in May, while the one at Disney’s Hollywood Studios follows in August. So, the Celebration panel will likely consist of one final marketing push to highlight key aspects about Galaxy’s Edge (as if fans need to be further sold on this) and possibly any surprise reveals that are being saved for the Celebration crowd. There’s also a chance the Galaxy’s Edge team talks about plans they have for the future as the land evolves over time. With all of the Star Wars movies and TV shows coming through the pipeline, it’s highly unlikely Galaxy’s Edge remains static in its current form forever. Disney will surely want to incorporate elements from upcoming projects in order to capitalize on buzz and excitement.

Ever since the original Star Wars film premiered in 1977, audiences have wanted to live in that creative, thrilling universe and now they’ll finally have that opportunity. Disney certainly spared no expense to make Galaxy’s Edge worth the wait, and they’ll surely be reaping the benefits for years to come. Star Wars has been at the forefront of the pop culture zeitgeist for more than 40 years, has generations of fans, and would still be a popular draw even if there weren’t any new movies coming out. Galaxy’s Edge is actually opening earlier than anticipated because there’s so much interest. There’s no telling how massive this will become.
