Gabrielle Union is continuing to lean on her husband Dwyane Wade after being fired from America’s Got Talent. The L.A.’s Finest actress posted a series of touching photos celebrating her spouse and his stabilizing effect in her life.

Union was unexpectedly fired from NBC’s America’s Got Talent in December 2019. Her untimely termination came on the heels of speaking out against a toxic work environment on the show. Her complaints included racist comments made by guest host Jay Leno, culturally insensitive talent performances, as well as boss Simon Cowell’s alleged penchant for smoking indoors (despite an L.A. city ordinance rendering the practice illegal). While celebrities and fans alike rushed to Union’s defense, no one was more supportive of her than husband Dwyane Wade. The power couple showed the strength of their union in social media posts, as well as carefully curated interviews with the press. Wade even flexed his professional muscle by publicly demanding that his wife’s former bosses remedy her termination to their satisfaction.

“So many tears, so much gratitude,” Union tweeted in late 2019. “THANK YOU! Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone… you got me up off the ground. Humbled and thankful, forever.” In the midst of the media storm, Union echoed that sentiment with a heartfelt tribute to Wade, posted to her Instagram account. “Lord, you KNOW I’m tryin…” she captioned. “Whew and breathe. Support is everything.”

The America’s Got Talent controversy isn’t the first time this dynamic duo has joined forces. Union has been vocal about her past issues with fertility and conception, following a series of miscarriages. Through it all, Wade stood beside her as she detailed the emotional aftermath of the ordeal. In 2018, when Wade retired from the NBA, Union continued to prove herself a rock for him as well. She marveled at her husband’s new discoveries about post-pro athlete life on the Late Late Show with James Corden back in May 2019. Union joked that Wade had experienced his first car wash, and had fallen in love with the sportswear giant Old Navy, having never been there before leaving the NBA. The couple has even banded together to give love and support to Wade’s son Zion, who recently came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

Gabrielle Union is proving that Hollywood’s elite can champion various causes and still come out on top. Sure, she lost an easy gig at America’s Got Talent. However, in doing so, she scored accolades from many people who have felt marginalized by bad attempts at humor, as well as a lack of representation and authority in the workplace. What’s more, having a supportive husband in Dwyane Wade has given Union an additional boost of confidence. Whether it’s his unconditionally loving parenting style or his solid partnership with his wife, this all-star is setting a sterling example of the modern Renaissance Man. Despite adversity, Union and Wade have come out on top, and are true pillars of their community.
