Quibi releases The Fugitive teaser trailer for their reboot as the latest reworking of the Roy Huggins TV series is getting set to launch. The original TV series, which ran from 1963-1967, was a major hit for ABC and was adapted into a film starring Harrison Ford in 1993.The Fugitive was one of the biggest hits of 1993, and starred Tommy Lee Jones as Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard, the man tasked with hunting down Ford’s Dr. Richard Kimble. As a man framed for the murder of his wife, Kimble managed to stay one step ahead of Gerard’s relentless pursuit before ultimately succeeding at clearing his name and capturing the real murderer. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards and landed Jones his first, and to date only, Oscar.

Given it popularity, it seems odd that The Fugitive hasn’t already been rebooted for the big screen. And while plans for a new adaptation have persisted, this time around fans of the concept won’t be able to view it in theaters, but instead via their mobile phones. The latest retooling of The Fugitive will arrive later this year on short-form media platform Quibi, and will star Kiefer Sutherland and The Predator’s Boyd Holbrook.

We’ve known about this new version of The Fugitive for quite some time, but until now, there hasn’t been a trailer to go on. The first official teaser has now arrived and fans of The Fugitive will be glad to know that it looks just as action packed as its predecessors. The new Fugitive teaser featuring Sutherland and Holbrook comes to us courtesy of Quibi’s official YouTube and can be viewed in its entirety below:

Though the characters names are different and the concept has changed from a man fighting to prove he didn’t murder his wife to a man fighting to prove he isn’t a terrorist, the new series still appears to retain its original appeal. Sutherland has taken on the role previously played by Jones, while Holbrook reinterprets Ford’s character. Regardless of what’s on display in this first teaser trailer, however, the truly impressive aspect of this rebooted version of The Fugitive is that it’s on Quibi. For those who don’t know, Quibi’s entire purpose as a mobile media platform is to offer content with a running time no greater than 10 minutes per episode. Zac Efron recently made news after being hospitalized while filming Killing Zac Efron, which is another program set to launch when Quibi officially kicks things off this April. In fact, so far, Quibi’s library of content is looking quite intriguing.

How exactly will a program with as much fast-paced action as The Fugitive play out in such short installments? Unfortunately, that’s not a question that can be answered just yet. But judging by this first teaser trailer, The Fugitive might be just the sort of program that’s perfect for a platform like Quibi. The new series is expected to have 14 episodes, which still doesn’t feel like a lot of time to tell a story. Surprisingly enough, if each episode of The Fugitive is 10 minutes, the entire series will have a 140-minute run time. That’s only 10 minutes longer than the 1993 film. It will certainly be interesting to see whether or not The Fugitive will still manage to retain the appeal it has had in the past in this new format.
