The recently released trailer for Frozen 2 was reportedly going to debut next month originally. The sequel to the 2013 hit film, Frozen, the sequel reunites fans with an  older Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) in a brand new adventure alongside their allies Olaf and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff). Not much has been revealed in the first sneak peek for the animated movie, but it seems like Arendelle is facing another crisis.

Coming off the massive success of the first film, Disney didn’t take long to tease the sequel. Frozen 2 was originally going to debut in 2015, but it had continued to be pushed back, causing concern for fans about the number of years between the films. The House of Mouse tried to ease people’s anticipation with the release of the controversial Olaf’s Frozen Adventure released in front of Pixar’s Coco, but the backlash it received didn’t help the cause. Now, with the film finally locked for a November 2019 release date, fans are starting to get excited for the sequel again especially with the first trailer already rolling out. But apparently, it wasn’t supposed to drop this early.

According to Daniel RPK on Twitter, the Frozen 2 trailer was initially planned to come out next month. Rumor has it that Disney only fast-tracked its release to divert people’s interest from the poorly-received reveal of Will Smith’s Genie in the live-action Aladdin TV spot which came out early this week. Fans are understandably intrigued with the idea - some of them commending the move and saying it worked, others meanwhile are starting to get worried about the Guy Ritchie-directed film.

In hindsight, it’s quite odd that Disney would decide to roll out trailers for two big films this close to each other. Usually, their marketing team would spread out the release of any promotional material for separate films so as not to cannibalize each other.  This is something that they have become good at, considering the number of properties they need to work on year after year. Granted that they dropped the second trailer for Captain Marvel and the first one for Avengers: Endgame in the same week, the fact that those movies are linked to each other justified it. Frozen 2 and Aladdin couldn’t be any more separate and different however.

Obviously Disney would have to continue marketing Aladdin moving forward with it set to release this summer. And since there’s little to no chance that this bit of detail will be either confirmed or denied by the House of Mouse, people won’t know if this is the case. That said, the public really has no say when studios want to release anything about their projects, so technically the company isn’t forced to acknowledge this rumor. As some of the fans said, releasing the Frozen 2 trailer was the right move, considering that they were able to drown out the bad press from the Genie-reveal.
