From the day that Friends came to an end people have wanted to see the show return. The sitcom has a legion of loyal fans who constantly speculate what the group may or may not be up to after the series ran its course, and it’s truly impossible to predict.

However, with the Friendsreunion special on HBO Max giving everyone hope that more could be coming, more stories from these beloved characters have never been closer. Because of how the show ends with Chandler Bing, there’s a lot of possibilities for storylines. He was consistently the funniest member of the group, but what would life be like for Chandler all this time later? Here are five storylines fans would love for Chandler, as well as five that people wouldn’t want to see.

Would Love: Adjusting To A New Home

Depending on how recent or far back the show wanted to go, a storyline surrounding Chandler adjusting to no longer being in the apartment would certainly be an interesting one. Seeing how they deal with the differences in owning a large home and what they want to do with the space.

It’s something that will certainly change their lives and seeing how they set things up and when they invite people round would just give a totally unique feel in comparison to when they were just hanging out in the apartment.

Wouldn’t Love: Janice

Everyone loves Janice, and there’s no doubt that if Friends was to ever return for a true sitcom style show, a series, or a movie, she would have to feature in some cameo capacity. However, that doesn’t mean people want to see another storyline between her and Chandler.

We don’t need Janice trying to push her way into his life or becoming Auntie Janice, the odd family friend. There are better ways to use her, and even though she has the most history with Chandler, it’s better off as just that.

Would Love: Erica Moves In

Erica is the person who gives birth to Chandler and Monica’s two children, and because of that, they have an incredible connection with her. Erica doesn’t have the easiest life and she could certainly use a helping hand, which is where Chandler could come in.

He had a very strong bond with Erica and it would certainly make sense that they stayed close with her. Welcoming Erica into their home as a guest until she gets on her feet and knows what she wants with her life could be a heartwarming and funny storyline.

Wouldn’t Love: Split With Joey

While welcoming Erica into his life would be a great storyline, letting Joey leave it wouldn’t be. As we saw in the spin-off Joey, he does actually move away to Los Angeles for his acting, but it’s unknown if Friends count that as part of the show’s canon.

Either way, it would be nice to see them still close as that is what everyone wants. Having them drift apart wouldn’t be a great storyline, simply because of how close they have been as friends up to this point.

Would Love: Explain His Job!

While we get certain glimpses into Chandler’s working life, there is still a slight cloud of mystery surrounding what it is he does. Perhaps things have changed since the show ended and he has moved into a new field, or perhaps he is stuck no longer enjoying work.

It would be interesting to see a storyline that focuses on the job, in a comedic manner, to give fans some perspective on what it is that he does for a job.

Wouldn’t Love: Works Away A Lot

Something to do with his work that fans wouldn’t want to see is that Chandler has to work away a lot. Obviously, this opens up a lot of storyline potentials through trust, loneliness, and longing, but that doesn’t mean that it’s something that should happen.

We saw glimpses of this in Friendswhen he almost worked away for Christmas and that was well done. But at this point in his life, fans don’t want to see a storyline with him working away for long periods of time, especially as he is a family man.

Would Love: Family Pet

Because Chandler and Monica have moved away from the city, there’s a great potential storyline to bring a pet into the home. After all this time they would certainly be settled with their children, so adding a new dynamic would be a lot of fun.

Pets aren’t something that was common in Friends, therefore it would also feel fresh. Previously we’ve only seen Marcel, and Rachel’s cat (which didn’t last long,) so seeing them gain a dog would open up some funny moments for them.

Wouldn’t Love: Becoming Serious

Chandler has certainly had his serious moments in the past, and that’s not a problem. But what people don’t want is for him to fall into Fun Bobby territory, where everything becomes doom and gloom or he simply takes everything seriously now that he’s a father.

Chandler has always been best as a funny and goofy type of guy. It’s made him loveable and that’s the sort of Chandler that people want to see if the show was to return down the line.

Would Love: Becoming A Father

The big storyline that everyone wants to see from Chandler is simply him becoming a father. He already has the dad jokes, but people want to see what he will be like as a parent, and how he will deal with all the trials and tribulations that come with that.

While Monica is stressing about the mess, will Chandler be the one making jokes and entertaining, or will his role be reversed? We got a teaser, but fans wanted more and that could now happen.

Wouldn’t Love: Breaking Up With Monica

This is an absolute no. Out of all the storylines that could be written for Friends in the future, splitting up Chandler and Monica is possibly the worst that they could come up with. Absolutely nobody wants to see this couple break up as they were just perfect together.

Sure, they had a few arguments on the show, but what couple doesn’t? They were sweet and kind, and nobody wants to ever believe that they broke up. While it might be a juicy topic to jump into, it’s just a storyline that wouldn’t be well received.
