November’s free Xbox game lineup for Games with Gold has been announced, and while they might not be the heaviest hitters, there are some solid titles on offer. One free game this month may even bridge the gap for anyone waiting for the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on November 15th.

Both Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus, which recently announced its free November titles, seem to be somewhat overlooked by Microsoft and Sony lately. Back in July, fans were so upset by the weak PlayStation Plus offerings that Sony ended up changing its lineup. Both services offer free games to entice players to sign up for their console’s online service, but Sony and Microsoft also offer subscription services with a much larger library of playable games, making the few free games that Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus offer seem a little redundant. Things are set to get even more crowded in the subscription-based games field, with Xbox Game Pass getting expanded to PC and PlayStation Now slashing its prices in half.

Whatever the future of free and subscription-based games on Xbox looks like, Games with Gold is still getting regular updates for now. Microsoft announced that Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter, The Final Station, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Joy Ride Turbo are coming to the service in November. It’s certainly not a lineup that will entice anyone to sign up for Games with Gold, but it’s a nice bonus for anyone who already has it.

Available only from November 1st to November 15th, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter may be the most recognizable title in the bunch. Despite being more than 15 years old, it’s still a fun, arcade-style flight sim that should satisfy anyone’s Star Wars craving on top of being a solid game. Also available November 1st, Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is a 2016 adventure game from the developers of The Sinking City, which Screen Rant gave 3/5 stars. It got mixed reviews, but is still worth a look for fans of the genre. The Final Station and Joy Ride Turbo unlock on November 16. Of the games on offer, Joy Ride Turbo is clearly the most skippable, but The Final Station may be the best of the bunch. A mix of side-scrolling action and management sim, this overlooked game challenges to keep a train running from station to station after a zombie outbreak.

November’s Xbox Games with Gold titles might not feature anything as exciting as Nioh or Outlast 2, which were added to PlayStation Plus this month, but they’re still mostly worth checking out. One of the strengths of these free game services is that they can expose players to games they might have otherwise overlooked, and this month’s selection seems designed to do just that.
