March is upon us, meaning it’s time for Sony to unveil the list of free games PlayStation Plus subscribers have coming their way. One game offers a remastered take on a first-person shooter classic. The other is a celebrated modern puzzler.

Subscribers have only a few days to download the February 2019 games before they get the boot. February’s batch brought Hitman: The Complete First Season and For Honor for PS4. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Divekick made up the PS3 offerings (with the latter having Vita cross-buy). Speaking of Vita, handheld owners can still pick up Gunhouse and Rogue Aces. Grab those PS3/Vita games while you can. Sony announced a while back that February will be the final month to feature last generation games in the line-up. Starting in March and beyond, PS Plus will only consists of PS4 titles despite not altering the price or increasing the number of free games.

As revealed by PlayStation, first up on March’s list is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The series’ first foray into contemporary war originally launched in 2007. It became a mega hit, propelling Call of Duty into the financial and pop culture juggernaut we know it as today. This remaster first appeared as bundled content with 2016’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. The beloved gunplay features improvements to graphics, animation, and audio. Its multiplayer modes remain intact while introducing new content such as Prop Hunt, a hide-and-seek style game where a team hides as inanimate objects. Perhaps giving away Modern Warfare: Remastered signals what’s to come from Infinity Ward this year? We already know that whatever the new Call of Duty is, it will reportedly be massive in scope.

Onto something completely different in the critically acclaimed puzzle game, The Witness. Developed by indie luminary Jonathan Blow, this follow-up to his 2008 hit Braid arrived in 2016. Players explore a beautiful island littered with deceptively challenging line-based puzzles. Unraveling those riddles helps to unravel the island’s grander mysteries. Players will need to flex every muscle in their noggins to discover the game’s true story and meaning.

March’s batch definitely features two very disparate yet exceptional experiences. However, players have already expressed displeasure at having to now pay the same monthly price for significantly less free games. While it would have been naive to expect Sony to dole out last gen games forever (it’s somewhat surprising they kept doing it this long), tossing in even just a third PS4 game would have helped rebalance PS Plus’ value. Given that Xbox Live Gold gives out four free games a month for the same price, Sony’s service appears lesser by comparison.
