A patent application published today could herald slimmer Apple Watch models as the company describes a method of moving the haptic motor from the watch to the band. Taps to the wrist could then be delivered by the band rather than the Watch. Apple specifically cites space-saving as the benefit of the invention … Although Apple does the usual patent thing of keeping the language as general as possible, referring to ‘portable electronic devices’ rather than smartwatches specifically, frequent reference to ‘band’ as well as the patent drawings make it abundantly clear that the company has the Apple Watch in mind....

The company’s massive new Austin campus is now operational, and new photos of the location that have been posted to Twitter and Instagram by employees at the complex show that the campus is a building worthy of the Apple name. Construction on the first phase of the campus wrapped up in early February, and employees began to occupy the facility later that month....

It looks like the on-off acquisition of display-maker Sharp by iPhone assembler Foxconn is back on. The WSJ reported earlier that the two companies have been discussing a significantly lower valuation for the company, and Reuters now reports that share trading in Foxconn has been suspended due to a “major announcement.” The deal is expected to be finalised during board meetings by both companies tomorrow for around $2B less than originally discussed, after a rather stormy journey....

In what appears to be a supplement to his upcoming “Boys Don’t Cry” album, Frank Ocean today has released a new visual album “Endless” exclusively to Apple Music. It was originally reported that “Boys Don’t Cry” would drop two weeks ago on Apple Music, but as has been the case many times throughout the wait for the album, it didn’t actually release. Instead, we have a visual album. According to an Apple Music representative speaking to Pitchfork, the “Endless” visual album is just the start of Frank Ocean content coming to Apple Music....

Hacker group SwaggSec just released a dump of Foxconn internal information, including a mail server login/password dump and logins to various online procurement sites and Intranets. The hack seems to be a retaliation for the working conditions that have swarmed the news lately. The hackers gained access through an unpatched Internet Explorer vulnerability used by a worker inside Foxconn. We were able to verify these logins worked on more than one Foxconn server, and you can find bits like the following from the large dump:...

Molotov TV, a popular Netflix alternative in France which combines live and on-demand viewing, has now launched on Apple TV. It’s being touted as an exclusive, though French site iPhone Addict suggests that it’s likely to make it to competitor boxes later. The service, already available on iPad and coming soon to iPhone, is a freemium one. The free service offers 35 free-to-air channels – including all the major French networks – plus ten hours of on-demand viewing per month....
